The '5165 Movement' Will No Longer Participate in Street Protests, Hohikyan Clarifies

Members of the '5165 Movement' announced during a press conference today that their struggle is entering a new phase. This announcement by the movement has led many to interpret it as a split within the Liberation Movement. However, the leader of the '5165 Movement', Karin Tonoyan, stated during the conference that despite their decision, there can be no talk of a split within the Liberation Movement.

In an interview with ArmDaily.am, the founder-member and media expert of the Liberation Movement, Nairi Hohikyan, mentioned that it is not a matter of a split, but rather a division of labor. 'Yes, there were certain disagreements among us, but those disagreements were not on ideological grounds; they were more about technical issues,' he said. 'We will continue to advance together with the same ideological struggle, helping each other. So there is no talk of a split—it's simply a division of labor based on certain technical differences, not even disagreements,' Hohikyan emphasized.

He added that the '5165 Movement' has informed them that they do not see success in street protests and rallies: 'They stated that they cannot envision achieving success through that means. They want to meet with different political forces one-on-one. Overall, the Liberation Movement is also moving towards that; we are also organizing the consolidation of various political forces. I am confident that at some point, we will come together and stand side by side on the same platform. We have agreed to just make a division of labor. It is true that they are not participating in the second phase of the street struggle with us, but that does not mean we are split.'
