Tehran and Baku Sign Agreement: It Is Equally Dangerous for Us as the Provision of a Corridor, Vahe Davtyan
Expert Vahe Davtyan’s post: “Tehran and Baku have signed an agreement on gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iranian territory, with an annual capacity of up to 2 billion cubic meters. Before our eyes, a deep transformation process is taking place in the Caspian-Caucasus region, where Armenia is once again used as a pawn.
The signing of such an Iran-Azerbaijan agreement is neither a maneuver nor a technical diversification. It is a direct outcome of a policy aimed at establishing strategic relations between the parties, which will also be used as a tool for mutual deterrence. If we clarify what has taken place, it is evident that regional players have come to an agreement regarding the logistics of the ‘North-South’ transport-energy corridor (which I have been writing about since at least 2017).
By the way, this is no less dangerous for Armenia than the provision of a corridor. In the long term, it may even be more dangerous.”
