UN Welcomes Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan Leaders' Trilateral Meeting
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the trilateral meeting held on November 26 between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia.
According to a statement from the Secretary-General's press service, Guterres acknowledged the joint statement by the leaders of the three countries. He also emphasized the role of the Russian Federation in supporting the continuation of dialogue and communication.
“The Secretary-General is encouraged by the restoration of high-level direct interaction between Armenia and Azerbaijan and their commitment to fully implement the trilateral statements of November 9, 2021, and January 11, 2021,” the statement read.
The Secretary-General reiterated the UN's principled position that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, calling on the parties to resolve outstanding issues through all available formats, including under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
According to the statement, the UN is ready to support all such efforts, including through the provision of humanitarian assistance and support for the restoration and consolidation of peace.
