Will Schools Have Two Directors with New Amendments? The Deputy Minister of Education Responds
Schools will not have two directors. This was stated today during a press conference by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Zhanna Andreasyan, addressing the question of whether schools will have two directors as part of the reforms in the general education sector.
“There will be one director who will deal with substantive issues, that is, only educational matters. The management of school property will no longer be decided by the school director as part of their responsibilities. Today, if we look at the programs presented by our school directors during various elections, they seem to be construction plans. There is no mention of anything related to the organization of education. We must understand that we require the director only for educational matters; technical issues will be under state jurisdiction. The other person will be the coordinator of the administrative and economic issues of the school, who will be an assigned individual for several schools,” said Andreasyan.
According to her, this step aims to remove the perception within society that a school is just a building. The leader should be the school director, as well as the person engaged with substantive issues. According to the deputy minister, this process will not be easy, and a fairly long-term process is expected.
As for who will have the seal, Andreasyan stated that these will be regulated by legal provisions. “But it should be understood that the financial responsibility will be held by the coordinator of administrative and economic issues,” she noted.
