What the Opposition Should Do Today in the National Assembly: Edmon Marukyan
Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia Party, has shared the following statement:
"Considering that Armenia is a parliamentary country, I propose that the opposition factions of the National Assembly present a unified draft statement in which the following points will be clearly articulated:
- According to Article 88, Part 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly is the representative body of the people.
- Based on Article 105, Part 1 of the Constitution, the parliamentary factions contribute to the formation of the political will of the National Assembly.
- Armenia excludes the provision of a sovereign corridor to Azerbaijan or any other country.
- Armenia supports the elimination of the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan and Turkey for three decades, and the opening of roads and communications.
- The Nagorno-Karabakh issue should not be linked to the processes of demarcation and delimitation and should be discussed separately from these processes.
- No demarcation or delimitation can take place between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the expense of the territory of the Republic of Artsakh without the expression of the free will of the people of Artsakh.
- Azerbaijani troops must immediately leave the territory of the Republic of Armenia, allowing the newly established commission to carry out constructive work.
I believe that in this regard, both the government and the opposition hold the same position and, therefore, as the highest legislative body of the country, can and should act jointly on the external front by adopting a statement from the National Assembly."
