Naira Zohrabyan as the Official Representative of Artsakh in Russia? Insights from ‘Iravunk’
The newspaper ‘Iravunk’ reports that according to their sources, an offer has been made through Russian mediation to Naira Zohrabyan, a member of the National Assembly's seventh convocation and president of the NGO ‘Security and Democracy,’ to be appointed as the official representative of Artsakh in the Russian Federation.
When ‘Iravunk’ inquired whether she accepted the offer, she responded: “I will answer briefly: there have been discussions, and nothing more. As the head of a non-governmental organization, I am currently actively engaged in issues related to the rights of prisoners of war, the displaced from Artsakh, and the protection of cultural monuments in the occupied territories of Artsakh, which I consider very important.”
“In any case, being the official representative of Artsakh in Russia would imply expressing official viewpoints from Artsakh. Would you have imagined your work with the President of Artsakh, Araik Harutyunyan?” she continued: “That question would be relevant if a decision had been made, but there is no such decision at this moment. I believe that the work I am doing in Armenia is extremely important and beneficial for Artsakh. Today, we must understand that in this extremely difficult situation, what remains of Artsakh could serve as a new idea for pan-Armenian consolidation. Each of us must do our utmost in our place to ensure the security of Armenia, also by supporting that small part of Artsakh.”
