Aliyev on Events at the Border
The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is taking place in Sochi. During a private conversation, Aliyev noted that the issue of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations will also be addressed during today's dialogue.
Aliyev asserted that since the deployment of Russian peacekeepers on November 9 of last year, there have been no serious incidents in the area over the past year. “There have been no shootings, there have been no serious cases. There have been incidents, but they have not been systematic. There have been border clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, but this area is not under the responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers. However, this compels us to discuss it during the trilateral meeting, it necessitates a serious conversation on how to control and minimize the risks,” said Aliyev, expressing optimism about the significant role of the Russian side and hoping that the peacekeepers' mission will continue next year without any incidents.
