90 Million Drams: Why the Decision to Change the Speaker of Parliament's Car

During today’s government session, a decision was made to allow the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to acquire a passenger car, a BMW 750Li xDrive LCI, through a purchase procedure from an individual.

The vehicle will be acquired for the Speaker of the National Assembly, Allen Simonyan. In a conversation with ArmDaily.am, the spokesperson for the Speaker of the National Assembly, Tsovinar Khachatryan, stated that the car will be purchased from Euro Motors LLC, the official representative of BMW in Armenia.

“The Assembly has aimed to maximize savings. As for the car currently servicing the Speaker, I would like to mention that it is not armored, and its operational lifetime has expired after about seven years, resulting in considerable maintenance costs, for example, changing the tires costs 17 million drams. The need for a new vehicle is explained based on security and representation, as well as cost-effectiveness, given that it includes warranty and maintenance expenses. The vehicle is being purchased from the savings account of the National Assembly for 2021,” said Khachatryan.

It is worth noting that 90 million drams will be allocated for the purchase of the new vehicle.
