Attempts Made to Wiretap Arthur Vanetsyan and His Relatives: Statement by the MP

The Armenian authorities attempted to wiretap Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the 'Honorary Right' parliamentary faction, using the Israeli Pegasus spyware. Vanetsyan himself announced this by publishing a letter he received from Apple.

"Today, I received a letter from Apple, which I decided to publish for at least two reasons:

  1. This letter confirms my previous statements that the current authorities in Armenia have illegally attempted to wiretap me, violating my right to the inviolability of my personal and family life for an extended period. These attempts are evidently related to my political activities. I reiterate that I have factual evidence that attacks have been carried out via the infamous Pegasus program not only on my phone but also on the phones of my close circle and family members.
  2. In this letter, Apple offers recommendations to keep the phone secure, which, in my opinion, should be widely disseminated. Due to the illegal actions against me and potentially other citizens of Armenia, I urge the country's Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan to pay attention to this matter.

P.S. Nikol, do not be afraid of me; be afraid of the consequences of the calamities you have brought upon our homeland and the Armenian people.
