Journalist Met with Surik, Who Died Yesterday, at the Frontlines and Planned to Meet After His Service
On October 16, in the positions of Gegharkunik, "Hetq" met with Surik Safaryan, a conscript soldier who lost his life in yesterday's gunfire. We present an excerpt from the interview with Surik:
"We are in the positions of Gegharkunik, it is very cold, we are at an altitude of 2900 meters. Private Surik Safaryan's hands are red from the cold. I ask him:
- Aren't you freezing?
- No, how about you?
- I'm freezing, aren't you wearing gloves?
- We do, but it's still warm now."
Surik is shy and refuses to speak in front of the camera. After much persuasion, he finally allows only to be photographed.
"At least let your people see your photo, they'll be happy," I try to convince him.
"Oh well, if you're taking photos, then go ahead," he finally agrees.
Private Safaryan has served for 8 months and is from the town of Aparan in Aragatsotn Province. I ask him to tell a bit about himself. He says that after finishing school, he worked various jobs – at a gas station, in a store, and then was drafted into the army. After completing his military service, he intends to study, but has not yet decided on a profession.
We agree to meet after his discharge."
