Current Situation in Kuth Community: Mayor on Border Status
The situation towards Kuth is calm. This was stated by Kim Chitchyan, the administrative head of the Kuth community in Vardenis, Gegharkunik Province, while commenting on provocations from the Azerbaijani side.
“We have nothing here; it has been several days without gunshots,” noted Chitchyan. The Azerbaijani side frequently resorts to provocations towards the Kuth village. For the enemy forces that have invaded the sovereign territory of Armenia since May 15 from various directions, certain areas of the village are of interest.
Yesterday evening, information circulated on social media that due to an Azerbaijani provocation towards Kuth, a firefight had erupted between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed units, resulting in an Armenian serviceman being injured. The Ministry of Defense denied that a firefight had started in the direction of Kuth.
Later, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that a firefight began around 6:00 PM in the direction of Norabak village in the Geghamasar community of the province. Units of the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire with various caliber firearms towards Armenian positions located in the area of Norabak village, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to Private Suren Yuriki Safaryan (born in 2002) from the Defense Army's N military unit. By 7:30 PM, the gunfire had ceased.
