Order from Moscow: Are Russian Border Guards Strengthening Patrols in Armenia?

After the incident on November 16, when a serious battle broke out between Azerbaijani forces and the Armenian army in the Syunik border area, Russian border guards have received orders from Moscow to strengthen patrols along the Armenian-Turkish, Armenian-Iranian, and Armenian-Azerbaijani borders in areas under their direct or indirect control, reports the Wargonzo project.

“This is evidence that Moscow is at least aware of the recurrent armed provocations and threats in the border regions of Armenia,” the source notes, reminding that the Azerbaijani military's attempt to advance and seize several dominant peaks in Syunik has put the connection of the peacekeeping group in Artsakh with the Russian 102nd base at risk. Furthermore, the Sisian airport, which is used by the Russian Ministry of Defense as an important transport and logistical supply hub, could come under the target of Azerbaijani forces and their Turkish controllers (in the event of operational success).

Currently, according to information from Wargonzo, the situation along the contact line in Syunik is stable.
