"If the parties apply, we will start working". Zara Amatuni on the fate of 24 Armenian servicemen

The head of communication programs at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Armenia, Zara Amatuni, stated in an interview with 168.am that she cannot provide any information regarding the Armenian prisoners of war captured on November 16.

“I can only confirm that we continue to stay in direct contact with the relevant authorities on both sides regarding this situation. Depending on further developments, we will have more information to share with the public. At this point, I can only say that we follow all developments and are in contact with the authorities as well as with the families,” said Zara Amatuni, responding to the question of whether the Red Cross has visited the Armenian servicemen in captivity.

Regarding the fate of the 24 Armenian servicemen, whose whereabouts have been unknown since November 16, and in this context concerning the ICRC's operations, Zara Amatuni noted that the ICRC can only carry out such operations with the agreement of the parties. “In this regard, we can only convey our readiness, which we have done. If the parties agree, we can work as we did, for example, for the search for the remains of those killed or missing as a result of last year's escalation. If the parties apply, then we will start working; we have conveyed our readiness to the parties,” concluded Zara Amatuni.

It is worth noting that on November 16, the enemy resorted to military aggression in the Sisian area of the Syunik region, resulting in missing persons, killed servicemen, and captives on the Armenian side.
