Proposal from Lithuania to Accommodate Migrants in Ukraine or Moldova
Migrants at the border between Belarus and the EU can be accommodated in Ukraine or Moldova, said Petras Vaitiekunas, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Lithuanian ambassador to Ukraine and Belarus.
“We cannot allow the foundational European values to be undermined due to human deaths. In one way or another, we either have to send them away, accept them, or ask our friends in Ukraine and Moldova to take them in at one of their camps. People should not die of cold at the EU border,” Vaitiekunas stated in an interview with Lithuanian Info TV.
Recently, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland reported an increase in the number of illegal migrants from the Middle East and Africa detained at the border with Belarus, accusing Minsk of causing a migration crisis. Minsk denies all allegations.
