We Are Ready to Carry Out Tasks As Needed: Commander of the Russian Air Base at Erebuni Airport
All aircraft located at Erebuni Airport are ready to carry out tasks as needed. This was announced by Colonel Alexander Petrov, the commander of the Russian air base stationed at Yerevan’s Erebuni Airport, during a conversation with journalists.
“We actively cooperate with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and the Aviation Administration. We also collaborate with the commanders of the units stationed at Erebuni Airport and in Gyumri,” noted Colonel Petrov.
This is the first time that the Russian Knights have showcased their skills in Armenia. The demonstration flight took place on November 21 and was dedicated to the 111th anniversary of the Military Aviation School named after Myasnikov.
The audience gathered at Erebuni Airport in Yerevan had a unique opportunity to witness the glorious art of the Knights. Four aircraft, under the command of Deputy Commander Andrey Alexeyev, displayed advanced aerobatic maneuvers, including angles, dense angles, arches, Nesterov loops, barrels, half-barrels, and synchronized barrels. The maneuvers were executed at critical angles of attack and with enormous loads, pushing the limits of the aircraft and pilots' capabilities.
The masterful pilots performed these aerobatic feats with Su-30SM aircraft weighing 30 tons, reaching speeds of over 700 km/h in conditions where the distance between wings was around two meters.
Prior to the demonstration flights, during a brief rally, Sergey Kopirkin, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Armenia, noted that the legendary group’s performance in Armenia is a symbol of friendship, respect, and solidarity from the leadership of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Defense towards the fraternal Armenian people. “This is very important in this difficult time that our brotherly country is going through, and what we will see today is not only a symbol of high aerobatics and the combat skills of Russian pilots but also a testimony to our fraternal union relations,” emphasized the ambassador.
Earlier, the Russian Knights had performed at the aviation exhibition in the UAE.
