Yerevan-Kapan Flights Canceled as Airline Withdraws Application
The airline "NovaAir" has canceled its application for operating Yerevan-Kapan flights, submitted to the Civil Aviation Committee. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by the press service of the RA Civil Aviation Committee.
The Committee reported that on October 20, NovaAir submitted an application to carry out two or more irregular flights on the Yerevan-Kapan-Yerevan route within the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the information, the company planned to conduct flights from January 20 to September 20, 2022, using L410 type aircraft.
"We inform that the mentioned application has not been processed by the committee, as the company requested in writing to cancel the application on November 16," the statement said.
The Committee also noted that under the decree of the Committee Chairman dated November 18, 2020, Kapan's "Syunik" airport was granted an "aerodrome certificate," which confirms the airport's readiness for operation according to international standards.
It is important to recall that information about regular Yerevan-Kapan-Yerevan flights was announced on November 11. It should also be noted that Azerbaijani military forces have been located just a few dozen meters away from the runway since the end of the 44-day war and the withdrawal of Armenian troops.
Traveling from Yerevan to Kapan can take 5-6 hours. During the Soviet era, an airport and a railway were constructed in the area. Since the early 1990s, both the airport and the city of Kapan have come under fire from Azerbaijani forces. In 2017, when capital repair works began there, an unexploded shell was found on the runway.
