Ukrainian Defense Minister Calls on Pentagon to Prevent Possible Russian Escalation

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, during his visit to the Pentagon, called for global unity to prevent a new Russian escalation against Ukraine. Reznikov met with Austin at the Pentagon and warned about the consequences of any Russian military actions.

“This possible escalation will undoubtedly have catastrophic consequences for all of Europe,” Reznikov stated, according to a transcript of his remarks at the Pentagon. “Whether this happens depends significantly on the unity of the civilized world and the determination to cease aggression.”

Austin informed Reznikov that the Pentagon is “carefully monitoring Russia’s movements near the Ukrainian border.” “We have clearly expressed our concerns regarding Russia's destabilizing activities and our desire for increased transparency,” Austin added.
