Davit Hambardzumyan: 'Attempts are being made to pressure our candidates not to participate in the campaign'
There are attempts to exert pressure on the candidates of the "Davit Hambardzumyan" alliance participating in the local council elections in Masis. This was stated by Davit Hambardzumyan, the former mayor of the Masis community and the head of the alliance, in an interview with NEWS.am.
"They are trying to exert pressure on our candidates so that they do not participate in the campaign, but still, I do not think they will succeed," he noted.
When asked if any council candidates had withdrawn due to pressure, Hambardzumyan said that there had been 1-2 such cases. "We even urged them to step down from the list to avoid getting their families and children in trouble at work," Hambardzumyan emphasized.
The term of the former mayor of Masis, Davit Hambardzumyan, expired on November 14. Yesterday, on November 17, Sayen Hayrapetyan was appointed as the acting head of the Masis community by the decision of Nikol Pashinyan. Sayen Hayrapetyan is the mayoral candidate from the ruling "Civil Contract" party.
Davit Hambardzumyan did not rule out that this might have been done for the purpose of using administrative resources during the elections. "It is evident that they have chosen this tactic, but I do not think they will be successful," said Davit Hambardzumyan.
It is worth noting that in the elections scheduled for December 5 in Masis, only the "Civil Contract" party and the "Davit Hambardzumyan" alliance will participate.
