Clashes Occurred in the Sevan Lake Area Near Sisian: Goris Deputy Mayor
No information has been received regarding clashes in the Sevan Lake area of our region. We are in constant contact; there are no problems. This was stated by Irina Yolyan, the Deputy Mayor of Goris, in an interview with 24News.
According to her, the clashes that began on November 16 at approximately 1:00 PM were due to an Azerbaijani attack, which took place in the Sevan Lake area near Sisian. "The Sevan Lake area stretches quite a long distance to the Ishkhanasar region. Specifically, there have been no issues in our area; the problems were in the Sisian area," noted the deputy mayor.
Irina Yolyan indicated that on November 16, there was no need to evacuate the residents of the Goris community.
It is important to remember that on November 16, around 1:00 PM, Azerbaijani Armed Forces units initiated yet another provocation along the eastern border of Armenia, shelling Armenian positions. As a result of the Azerbaijani attack on Armenian positions, there have been casualties and injuries on the Armenian side, with no precise data available yet, but it is known that two military positions have been lost.
On the same day, a statement from the Ministry of Defense indicated that a ceasefire agreement had been reached through the mediation of the Russian side, and from 6:30 PM onwards, artillery fire ceased along Armenia's eastern border.
The Ministry of Defense reported on November 17 that as a result of the hostilities on November 16, the enemy suffered up to 70 dead and wounded soldiers, as well as significant losses in military equipment, including 4 BTR armored personnel carriers, 1 Sandcat armored vehicle, and 5 trucks (Kamaz, Ural, UAZ). "The Armenian side has 1 soldier killed and 13 others taken captive. Communication has been lost with another 24 soldiers during the combat operations, and their fate is currently unknown. Intensive efforts are underway to locate the missing soldiers. Two military checkpoints have come under enemy control," the Ministry of Defense's statement read.
