Are There Villages Blocked in Syunik? Pashinyan Addressed the Claims

According to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the construction of alternative roads in the Syunik region is essentially unplanned work, but it is being carried out. He mentioned this during a government meeting.

The Prime Minister inquired about the progress of the construction of alternative roads in Syunik from the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. “We periodically see claims on social networks and in the press that there are villages in Syunik that have found themselves surrounded. Do we have villages that are under blockade? If we do not have such villages, where does this information circulate daily in the press and social networks?” said Nikol Pashinyan.

The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure stated that there are 7 roads that have been discussed continuously, one of which is the Tatev-Aghvan road, which is, according to the Minister, passable and in normal condition. “A three-layer asphalt coating is planned. Currently, two layers have been installed. In the spring, if there are any shortcomings, we will fix them, and the third layer will be installed. The works on the other 6 sections are underway. One of those 6 sections is the Kashuni-Bardzravan road, which is 9.5 km long. A part of the road is about 3.5-4 km, while the other sections continue to undergo improvement, the regulation of road passability, and, if necessary, also gravel works,” said the Minister.

Gnel Sanosyan noted that a part of the Tandzaver-Shurnukh road is being constructed entirely new, and the works are in progress. According to the Minister, Shurnukh village has at least two roads: one is the Khot-Vorotan-Shurnukh road, which is functioning normally and compatriots can travel, and the other is the Shurnukh-Bardzravan road. The basis of the Vorotan-Khot 10 km road is fully ready for traffic on 5 km.

The earthwork for the Kapan-Geghanush-Jakaten section has already begun, and gravel work started yesterday. Gnel Sanosyan assured that they will also build the Kapan-Jakaten road in parallel. Nikol Pashinyan noted that their program is to have a road in a passable condition in all these directions as soon as possible, which will be accessible for all types of vehicles. The Prime Minister emphasized that there is no settlement that is cut off or under blockade.
