Where was Hayk Sargsyan on the Day of the Kanaker Killings? The MP Clarifies
Armenian news outlets have been circulating information since yesterday suggesting that National Assembly MP Hayk Sargsyan is connected to the recent killings that took place in Kanaker. Furthermore, it is reported that he was at the crime scene. This information originates from a publication on the website of the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," which has also appeared in various media today in the form of press reviews.
The MP denies any involvement in the murders and has published evidence on his Facebook page indicating that he was in Kazan during that period, as part of a delegation, observing CSTO joint military exercises.
He has outlined several points to substantiate his claim that he was not in the country on the days leading up to and following the incident, as well as on the day of the killings. "The media outlet 'Zhoghovurd,' owned by the parliament member Taguhi Tovmasyan—who has repeatedly disseminated misinformation, made statements about our border situation from the National Assembly podium, and betrayed her constituents—has published yet another baseless lie about me. This time, the purpose of the falsehood is to tarnish my reputation by linking me to the murders that occurred in Yerevan on November 11. The article specifically states that I was at the crime scene. For everyone to realize that 'Zhoghovurd' is a media outlet that spreads lies and fabrications, I feel compelled to note:
- From November 10 to 16, I was on a business trip to the Russian Federation as a representative of the RA National Assembly participating in CSTO exercises.
- I do not know any of the individuals involved in the incident.
- I learned about the event the following day, through media outlets.
- My presence in Russia from November 10 to 16 is recorded at the border crossing point (attached are the stamps on my passport).
- There are numerous photos and videos confirming this; the official CSTO article can be found at this link.
Incidentally, I will file a lawsuit for defamation, as this media outlet has deliberately disseminated false, unsubstantiated 'factual data' with the aim of tarnishing my honor and dignity. My lawyer and I are also considering filing a criminal complaint. We must still determine the intent behind these lies.
