Syunik Governor on Border Situation

Syunik Governor on Border Situation

Last night in Syunik it was calm, with only fog reported in the direction of Khnadzor, and a few sounds of gunfire heard. There is nothing else to report; Sisian is also calm at this moment.

This was stated by the Governor of Syunik, Melikseth Poghosyan, in a conversation with NEWS.am. It should be noted that yesterday the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was extremely tense. Around 1:00 PM, Azerbaijani Armed Forces units launched an attack on Armenian positions, using artillery, armored vehicles, and various calibers of firearms. Following an agreement mediated by the Russian side, the fire was ceased from 6:30 PM, and the situation has relatively stabilized.

According to the Ministry of Defense, as of 10:00 AM on November 17, the situation along Armenia's eastern border is relatively stable, and the ceasefire agreement is mostly being upheld. The Ministry has only reported one casualty, a contract serviceman born in 1991, Meruzhan Arthur Harutyunyan. There are 13 servicemen captured, and communication with 24 servicemen has been lost, leaving their fate currently unknown.
