Mirzoyan Presents Situation Arising from Military Actions to Partners

On November 16, Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held phone conversations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and on November 17, with Swedish Foreign Minister, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ann Linde, and US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.

During these conversations, Mirzoyan detailed the situation created by the military actions unleashed by Azerbaijani armed forces against Armenia's sovereign territory on November 16. He noted that these actions were preceded by months of threats from Azerbaijan's highest authorities regarding the use of force against Armenia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as aggressive rhetoric. Additionally, he pointed to the incursions of Azerbaijani armed forces into Armenia's sovereign territory since May 12 of this year, particularly in the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions.

Mirzoyan emphasized that in response to Armenia's efforts aimed at de-escalation and establishing stability in the region, the Azerbaijani authorities have launched yet another aggression against Armenia's sovereign territory. He underscored the necessity for international partners to provide a targeted response and take consistent actions to deter Azerbaijan's blatant violations and provocative activities against the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia.

The participants also addressed the peaceful resolution process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. In this context, they highlighted the need for an expedited visit of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to the region. The parties also exchanged views on humanitarian issues requiring urgent solutions. In this regard, Mirzoyan emphasized the imperative for the unconditional repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war, hostages, and other detained persons.
