All Flight Restrictions and Limitations Between Armenia and the EU to be Lifted

Today, the European Union and Armenia signed an agreement on the Common Aviation Zone between Armenia and the EU, which is based on high standards of aviation safety, security, and air traffic management. With the signing of this agreement, it is expected that new opportunities will be created for consumers, airlines, and airports in both Armenia and the EU.

This was reported by the EU Delegation to Armenia. Among the benefits are the creation of new opportunities in air transport, the establishment of new direct air links, and economic benefits for both parties. In particular, all EU airlines will be able to operate direct flights from any point in the EU to any airport in Armenia, and the same will apply to Armenian airlines.

All flight restrictions and limitations between Armenia and the EU will be lifted, and equal competitive conditions will be ensured in accordance with the provisions of open and fair competition.

The agreement will facilitate communication between people, commercial opportunities, and expand trade between the EU and Armenia. It is also a valuable tool for the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

"The agreement signed today will allow the EU and Armenia to strengthen bilateral relations through the gradual integration of the aviation market. This is a key milestone in our strategy aimed at achieving closer cooperation with our neighbors. The agreement will provide citizens with a wider choice for travel, create new prospects for the aviation industry, and better connectivity through the inclusion of new routes and destinations, from which consumers, the tourism sector, and communication between people will benefit," stated Adina Valean, EU Commissioner for Mobility and Transport.

The Common Aviation Area (CAA) is intended to ensure the gradual liberalization of the aviation market between the EU and its neighbors, including regulatory convergence through the gradual implementation of EU aviation regulations. As a result, new opportunities will be created for operators, providing consumers with a broader choice.

The gradual liberalization of the market and the rapprochement of regulatory bodies take place in parallel to ensure fair competition and the implementation of high standards of safety, security, environmental, and other regulations.

In accordance with the provisions of the agreement, Armenia will need to continue aligning its legislation with EU aviation regulations and standards in areas such as aviation safety, air traffic management, security, environmental protection, economic regulations, competition, consumer protection, and social sectors.

Similar comprehensive air transport agreements have been signed with other neighboring countries, particularly with the Western Balkans, Morocco, Georgia, Jordan, Moldova, Israel, and recently with Ukraine. Negotiations have also been held with Tunisia regarding a neighboring aviation agreement, which is expected to be signed in the near future.
