Russia Conducts New Weapon Test in Space Without Warning, State Department Says

On November 15, Russia "recklessly" conducted a test of anti-satellite weapons against one of its satellites, resulting in hundreds of thousands of debris pieces threatening the International Space Station. This was reported by Ned Price, a spokesperson for the State Department. He noted that this action has jeopardized space missions for several countries.

Price emphasized that Moscow did not warn Washington about the tests. The Pentagon has also expressed concern regarding Russia's actions. General James Dickinson, head of the U.S. Space Command, stated that the anti-satellite weapons being developed by Russia pose a threat to the United States.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken also issued a statement, asserting that "despite Russia’s claims that it is against the deployment of weapons in outer space, it is prepared to jeopardize the dual-use stability in space and recklessly risk research and exploration conducted by all countries with its irresponsible behavior."

The Secretary called for all space-faring nations to unite and respond to Russia for these actions.

It is also known that Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Roscosmos, will hold a meeting with representatives from NASA arriving in Moscow on Tuesday. The agenda includes discussing the threat posed by space debris to the ISS.
