Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense Claims to Have Captured Armenian Soldiers
The official Baku reports the capture of Armenian soldiers. According to Azerbaijan, the Armenian Armed Forces allegedly carried out a 'widespread military provocation' today in the Kelbajar and Lachin regions, which 'resulted in the disarmament and capture of Armenian soldiers.' The exact number of those captured has not been specified by Azerbaijan's official sources.
'Units of the Armed Forces of Armenia carried out a large-scale military provocation. In order to seize heights at the state border and gain more advantageous positions for military superiority, the Armed Forces of Armenia conducted military operations on November 16 at 11:00 AM,' states an official statement from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense.
The ministry adds that the Armed Forces of Armenia, concentrating additional manpower and equipment in their border positions in Armenia's 'Basarkecharr' and 'Garakhilis' regions, attacked the positions of the Azerbaijani army located in the Kelbajar and Lachin regions.
'Significant damage was inflicted on positions as a result of intensive shelling from various calibers of firearms and mortars on the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. According to preliminary data, two servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were injured,' the Azerbaijani side's statement reads.
The Armenian side has not yet responded to this report, although earlier it was indicated that around 1 PM there was shelling of Armenian positions in the eastern border area by Azerbaijanis and actions were taken in response to prevent the advancement of the enemy.
