Armenian Side Appeals to the Russian Federation: Armen Grigoryan
During a broadcast on "News," the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, announced that the situation at the border is tense, with military operations ongoing. He linked today's escalation to Azerbaijan's use of additional armored vehicles and armed forces, stating that the adversary attempted to utilize the Azerbaijani Armed Forces located within the territory of Armenia.
He mentioned that since the attack was on the sovereign territory of Armenia, the Armenian side is appealing to the Russian Federation. "We are appealing under the framework of the 1997 treaty between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, calling for the protection of Armenia's territorial integrity. This is a verbal appeal that will also have a written procedure. We want to inform the public and our partners that we are initiating such a process," he emphasized, adding that the Armenian side expects that the Russian side will provide assistance to restore Armenia's territorial integrity.
Grigoryan reminded that the state border of Armenia is considered a "red line" for Russia and that since May 12, the Azerbaijanis have violated that "red line." He stated, "We appeal to our ally so that we can restore Armenia's territorial integrity within the framework of our allied obligations. If it is possible to resolve this crisis through negotiations, we are in favor. If it is not possible to resolve it through negotiations, then we request sufficient military assistance for Armenia to resolve the situation." Grigoryan announced that Armenia hopes that the crisis can be resolved through Russia and the CSTO structures.
