Will Help Come from Behind, Will Artillery Work, What Kind of Resistance is Being Discussed: Karen Hovhannisyan
Statements do not represent much and are much milder than reality. This was stated by military expert Karen Hovhannisyan in an interview with Tert.am, referring to the announcement by the Armenian Security Council regarding Azerbaijan's actions, which stated that four combat positions of the Armenian Armed Forces had been surrounded due to the actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
“The Azerbaijani military equipment and troops that invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia have left the territory as a result of negotiations, and the units of the Armenian Armed Forces have been withdrawn from the aforementioned four combat positions. However, Azerbaijani servicemen who invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia back in May are still deployed in that section. Reports that an order has been issued by the superior command of the Armenian Armed Forces or the political leadership not to resist do not correspond to reality,” the statement reads.
Hovhannisyan noted that the situation in a video being circulated online is different, and announcements by the Armenian state bodies have not been unambiguously accepted since November 9. “The situation is quite complex and tense, as such actions should not have occurred after November 9, but lo and behold, they are happening,” he said, adding that the change in the leadership of power structures also indicates the complicated situation.
“The internal political life is also chaotic, which the enemy is taking advantage of,” he said. Regarding giving a commensurate response to the issue, Hovhannisyan emphasized addressing the matter through legal means. “It is not the Armenian side that should solve the issue through military means, but it should bring it into the legal realm, which is not happening. In other words, Aliyev's actions, anti-Armenian and hateful statements, war crimes, the use of prohibited weapons, all should be taken to the legal arena, and Azerbaijan should be held accountable in the international community,” he said.
Speaking about the necessity of resistance to Azerbaijani actions, Hovhannisyan noted, “If we are not confident that help will come from behind, what kind of resistance are we discussing? If we are not sure that the artillery will work, that help will be provided to us in ten minutes, then we should not think about why they didn’t shoot with the automatic; we should understand what will happen after that.”
It should be noted that earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia also issued a statement, according to which on November 14, around 1:00 PM, Azerbaijani military units attempted to ensure positional advancement in the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Intense gunfire began, and Armenian defenders thwarted the enemy's attempts to take position in that area.
