VIDEO: Six Villages Cut Off, New Roads Construction Begins – Parsyan
Six villages are being cut off. Instead of traveling 7-8 km, residents will have to travel 150 km to reach Meghri. This was stated by Kapan Mayor Gevork Parsyan during a conversation with journalists, addressing the establishment of an Azerbaijani checkpoint on the Kapan-Jakaten road segment.
“Our villagers will have to travel that far to reach Kapan. The only alternative route, built in the 1990s, is a heavy, difficult forest road that requires significant work. It is a major issue, and we must start thinking about the residents of the six villages from tomorrow,” he said.
Regarding whether it would be advisable for residents to use the same road and cross the Azerbaijani check-point, Parsyan stated that this needs further discussion, and it will depend on security-related issues.
Gevork Parsyan also mentioned that the food issue for these villages will be resolved since the long road exists; however, the shorter route through Geghanush is in very poor condition, and construction work has only begun after the establishment of the Azerbaijani checkpoint in the Vayots Dzor region.
The Kapan Mayor elaborated that not only Jakaten is facing this problem but also five other communities. “Shikahogh, Nerkin Hand, Tsav, Shishkerd, and Srashen communities have about 600-700 residents,” he detailed.
