Hackers Breach the FBI's External Email System
Hackers have breached the FBI's external email system, sending out tens of thousands of fake messages from the FBI's address, warning of a potential cyberattack.
The Spamhaus Project, an international organization specialized in analyzing threats related to spam and phishing (a type of cybercrime aimed at obtaining confidential information, passwords, and usernames from social media users), announced on Saturday that the fake warning emails appeared to have "actually originated from FBI infrastructure." The messages warned recipients that the attacker was cybersecurity researcher Vinny Troia, who investigated the hacker group known as The Dark Overlord last year.
