"Syunik is on the brink of a humanitarian disaster," Alvina Aghababyan
The head of strategic research, Alvina Aghababyan, wrote on her Facebook page: "Syunik is on the brink of a humanitarian disaster. Since November 11, Azerbaijan has illegally closed the Goris-Kapan road with the tacit consent of the Armenian authorities, establishing border and customs control. Today, Syunik stands on the brink of a humanitarian disaster.
The connection from the Goris community to the villages of Shurnukh, Vorotan, and Bardzravan, as well as to the village of Nor Arajadzor in the Kapan community, has become difficult. There are no accessible roads connecting these villages to nearby communities, only dirt paths that are impassable, especially in this weather.
Serious issues regarding access to food, essential goods, and medical assistance have already arisen in these four villages. Only after 16:00 yesterday was it possible to deliver bread from Goris to the villages of Vorotan, Shurnukh, and Bardzravan.
Most teachers in the schools of Vorotan, Shurnukh, and Bardzravan come from Goris. Due to the road closure, they were unable to come to work yesterday. Starting today, classes in schools will be conducted online, and it remains uncertain how many students in these villages have the necessary means to participate in online lessons.
The villages of Vorotan, Shurnukh, Bardzravan, and Nor Arajadzor also have elderly residents, individuals with disabilities, and those with health problems who require immediate, effective, and urgent medical assistance and medications. At any moment, other residents of the villages, including children, may also need such assistance. However, it is not possible to organize this due to the closure of the Goris-Kapan road.
In addition to closing the Goris-Kapan road yesterday, Azerbaijan has effectively closed the Kapan-Jakaten road for a prolonged period. If this road segment is surrendered to the enemy, the communities of Jakaten, Shikahogh, Srashen, Nerkin Hand, Tsav, and Shishkert in the Kapan enlarged community will face the same challenges.
