Russian Side Must Firm Up Its Position: 'Zhoghovurd'

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' writes that almost all Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan were captured after the war, when peacekeepers had already been deployed.

Official Yerevan has not yet presented an official list of prisoners, nor has Azerbaijan. It is only known that in December 2020, the Artsakh Defense Army announced the disappearance of 73 servicemen, who were later confirmed to have been captured. Only a part of them has returned to Armenia, while the rest remain in Azerbaijan.

In this context, the Russian stance is noteworthy. The Russian military units performing peacekeeping missions should first have prevented the capture of Armenian servicemen, and after the capture, at least they should have worked towards their swift return. This is particularly relevant as Russia also signed the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, yet over a year has passed, and we still have prisoners.

Regardless of whether the Armenian authorities are doing everything possible for the return of the prisoners, it is evident that the Russian side must firm up its positions and actions on this matter.
