Prime Minister Must Visit the USA in December: Aram Sargsyan
Aram Sargsyan, the president of the Republic party, wrote on his Facebook page: "When our authorities insisted that there would be no corridor and only a road with Armenian customs checkpoints, it was predictable that Azerbaijan would attempt to apply the same regarding the Lachin corridor. However, since Lachin is more complicated due to the agreement of November 9 and has serious repercussions for the third party, the Russian side, that signed the document internationally, the process was inevitably tested in the Goris-Kapan section.
I am convinced that repeating the same in Lachin is just a matter of time, and we have only two options to avoid it. The first is to appeal to the UN Security Council and the co-chairs of the Minsk Group regarding the security concerns of the Armenian population in Artsakh, demanding the swift resumption of negotiations to prevent a new war.
I am confident that the first step of the Minsk trio will be ensuring previously agreed international peacekeepers, which, given this situation, may notably involve the predominant participation of Russian peacekeepers, along with the signing of a new, long-term peace agreement, which will be quite tough for both sides, but will outline clear rules of the game that will carry the force of law and will not be violated daily.
The second option is to prepare for a large-scale war, with Armenia's direct involvement and the use of all types of weapons, which could deter Azerbaijan's aggression and create a possibility for dignified peace. However, for this, it is necessary to mobilize our economy and purchase advanced weapons from developed technological countries, because during this time, aside from the dagger gifted to the Minister of Defense, the Russians have not provided us with any other weaponry and do not have what to offer.
Of course, the first option is preferable, and we all want peace, but this does not mean that the second option should not be our number one priority, nor can it be ignored. With harmonious, multi-faceted, and proactive foreign policy, and the proper utilization of natural and human resources, we are capable of ensuring dignified peace and establishing our place and significant role in the region.
Note: In order to approach the first option with another step, it is necessary for the Prime Minister to travel to the USA in December to participate in the democracy conference, no matter how much pressure there might be from Moscow. In this situation, this participation is not just about attending some conference, but also a declaration of Armenia's sovereignty.
