Teachers from Vorotan School Arrive in Village with Two and a Half Hour Delay from Goris
Teachers from Vorotan School in the Syunik region, more than ten of whom come from Goris, faced significant difficulties today as they arrived at work several hours late, using an alternative road through the village.
"There is a large vehicle that we usually take to work all together, but today we had to turn back halfway because it couldn't pass. Then, with two different vehicles—one a 'Niva' and the other an SUV from one of our teachers and the principal—we arrived. The upper part of the road is muddy but wide enough for the vehicle to pass, while the lower part is very dangerous and impassable. We barely managed to reach the school. The road is in ruins, and water is flowing through it," said Susanna Sargsyan in an interview with NEWS.am.
According to Susanna Sargsyan, many teachers did not need to arrive in Vorotan today because they had no classes, but if necessary, it will be a significant issue since the provided vehicle cannot traverse the alternative road that goes through Khot village.
"If we increase in number, we won't be able to fit into those two vehicles. One of the cars belongs to our military education teacher, who doesn't have a class today. Some of us have come in his car. We need to be provided with a larger vehicle so we can come. If we do not come anymore, the whole village will be emptied. The kids will be transferred for schooling. We have come so that people do not leave this place," Susanna Sargsyan noted.
The teachers do not want to use the main Goris-Kapan highway. "They said the road is closed, and the Azerbaijanis need to check passports. Who are they to check our passports? We are women, and we may not have passports in between; it’s an unnecessary thing, gesture it. Do we need to show our passports to them? Who are they to check our passports?" the teacher said.
It is worth noting that the Azerbaijani side will be installing checkpoints on the Goris-Kapan road starting from midnight. Armenia is also preparing to establish customs and border control points in that section of the road.
