New Casinos May Be Established
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that the government is simultaneously banning advertising for gambling, casinos, and bookmakers in mass media, thereby harming media outlets as well. On the other hand, the legislative draft allows for the creation of new casinos.
Specifically, yesterday the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia announced a new initiative aimed at amending the laws on "Gambling, Internet Gambling, and Casinos" and the "Law on State Duties." As is known, casinos are permitted in the cities of Tsaghkadzor, Jermuk, and Sevan.
Now, the ministry seeks to legally stipulate that casinos can also be established in cities that are considered tourist centers. This means that the government intends to prohibit bookmaker advertising in the press to reduce the number of gambling addicts while simultaneously creating conditions for new casinos to emerge under similar circumstances.
This indicates that the government is not being honest in its declarations and is actually seeking to financially undermine the press that criticizes Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
