Former Yerevan Council Member Discusses Issues with New Tatev-Kapan Road
Former member of the Yerevan Council from the Civil Contract faction, architect, and participant in the 44-day war, Arsen Karapetyan, wrote on his Facebook page:
“The other day we went back and forth on the Tatev-Kapan road. Let me share some information. It’s not bad for small and medium vehicles, it’s a beautiful road, even pleasant, the asphalt is fine. But it’s narrow, with a lot of turns; people with weak vestibular apparatus might find it daunting. For inexperienced drivers, it’s dangerous — it’s not equipped, and in several places, if you veer off the drivable part, God forbid, you could end up in a ravine. In a few spots, if you go down a long slope and incorrectly use your brakes, you’ll burn them out. If it snows or freezes, I can’t imagine it. And it’s absolutely unsuitable for heavy vehicles. Firstly, if a truck comes, overtaking is very dangerous, as there are few straight visibility sections. The radius of the turns is small, and heavy trucks encroach on the opposite lane to fit, so if you’re not careful, it won’t end well. And if a truck breaks down or overturns (I’ve seen something like this happen in Dilijan), consider the road closed until it is cleared. I’m not sure that Armen Grigoryan has personally driven there; I thought I should write so he knows.”
