Several Pregnant Women Have Died, Virus Severity Increasing in Children: Hasmik Ghazinyan

In Armenia, several pregnant women have died due to the coronavirus infection, and currently, there are over 120 infected pregnant women. This was stated by infectious disease specialist and hepatologist Hasmik Ghazinyan during a conversation with journalists.

According to her, today, there have been 1,637 new cases of coronavirus reported in the country, and a new record for the number of deaths has been set, with 80 people dying in the last 24 hours.

Alongside the spread of the new Delta variant, the severity of the coronavirus infection has also been increasing in children, with many patients showing pronounced cases of pneumonia.

The expert noted that the longer the virus circulates in the population, the more it undergoes changes and mutations. Mass vaccinations contribute to reducing this circulation; however, as of today, only a very small percentage of the country's population is vaccinated, which, according to the specialist, is a serious issue. It is necessary to understand where and why the number of vaccinated individuals is so low.
