Criminal Case Launched Over Attempted Murder of Khachik Village Resident: Prosecutor's Office

On November 9, 2021, around 14:50, armed forces of Azerbaijan opened fire at Th. Asatryan, a resident of Khachik village who was working with a "DT-75" tractor in the administrative area of the village in Vayots Dzor province. The attack was motivated by national hatred and had the direct intent of unlawfully taking his life.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the bullet shattered the left side window of the tractor. However, the assailants were unable to complete the crime as Th. Asatryan managed to hide, and he did not sustain any bodily injuries.

A criminal case has been initiated under part 2 of point 13 of articles 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code, and the preliminary investigation is being conducted by the eighth garrison investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee.

As per the agreement on the operational exchange of information regarding criminal incidents recorded in the Armenia-Azerbaijan contact line, data concerning the attempted murder of a peaceful civilian conducting agricultural work on the sovereign territory of RA has been relayed to the Russian side. This is in light of yet another criminal encroachment on the rights of the civilian population in border settlements and an infringement that violates ceasefire conditions.

For the same purpose, materials have also been provided to the Russian side concerning an incident that occurred on November 8, 2021, around 15:00. In this case, an Azerbaijani serviceman opened fire on four civilians from Artsakh performing repairs on a water supply pipeline in an area known as "Under Shushi," resulting in one death and three others sustaining gunshot wounds.
