Chicken Again: What Did the Children Hospitalized with Suspected Food Poisoning Eat?
Nine students from the "Elka" Children’s Development Center, who were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning yesterday, November 9, had eaten rice porridge and chicken breast. This was reported to NEWS.am by the director of the "Elka" Children’s Development Center, Gayane Ter-Petrosyan.
“Fifteen children ate, initially 6 to 8 children felt unwell. I immediately called an ambulance and went to the hospital with the children. They were given IV drips, and about half an hour later, they felt better, but they received IV treatment all night. The 8 children transferred to the Muratsan University Hospital have already been discharged today. One of the children later developed symptoms and was transferred to the National Center for Infectious Diseases. The latter is still receiving IV treatment,” noted Gayane Ter-Petrosyan.
According to the director of the children’s center, the chicken breast was produced by the local “Spitak” company, while the rice was Thai.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service took samples from the food the day before and sent them for laboratory testing. Until the test results are available, the "Elka" Children’s Development Center will not operate.
Gayane Ter-Petrosyan mentioned that the children had been at the children’s center since 1:00 PM, and prior to that, they had been at school. The children are aged 8-11 years old.
