Talking to People Engaged in Gambling is Essential, Not Banning Advertising: Davit Babakhanyan

“We should talk to people engaged in gambling, explain to them that it is not good, rather than banning advertising. This underscores the importance of social anti-advertising,” said Davit Babakhanyan, director of Armenia TV, at the National Assembly during the discussion of the ‘Advertising Law’ with the participation of media representatives.

He noted that if advertising is banned, a person will continue to play if they hear from friends, relatives, or acquaintances that gambling is a way out of their difficult social situation, and advertising is not the key motivating factor here.

“The motivating factor is the opinion of the person’s surroundings. We need to talk to those people, and that is the social advertising our company is proposing. The first solution is to talk to those people, not to ban advertising,” said D. Babakhanyan.
