Man Scams Women He Met Online, Promises Marriage, Steals 3 Million Drams

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has uncovered internet fraud committed by a 32-year-old man from Yerevan, according to the committee's press service.

Based on the evidence collected during the preliminary investigation, between 2020 and 2021, he met several women on the Odnoklassniki.ru social network under the names "GAG Yan," "GAGO YAN," and "Gagik Avetisyan," and on Facebook.com under the name "Gagik Asatryan," as well as on Instagram.com under the username "g.22.g22.g22.g." He presented himself as a financially secure individual, made false promises of marriage, and gained the trust of these women.

Subsequently, he accessed the "Idram" wallet information of these female users, used their details to arrange online loan agreements, and thus stole a total of 3,050,000 drams. In addition, he misused the trust of one of the aforementioned women to fraudulently steal her gold jewelry.

With sufficient evidence gathered, the 32-year-old man has been charged under Article 178, Part 2, Clause 2 (three episodes) and Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. He has been placed in custody as a precautionary measure. The investigation continues.

Considering the prevalence of this type of crime, the investigative body urges citizens who have fallen victim to similar actions to report to law enforcement and also to refrain from sharing their wallet information with others.
