VIDEO: How Wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan Defeated His Opponent to Win a Gold Medal
Freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan, competing in the 61 kg weight category, faced Russian wrestler Artur Chebodaev in the final at the World Under-23 Championships in Serbia, securing a brilliant victory with a score of 11-7 to claim the gold medal.
In the semifinals, Harutyunyan won against Kazakhstan's Asil Aitakinin with a score of 5-0. His journey began in the qualification rounds where he dominated a representative from Hungary with an 11-1 win. In the Round of 16, Arsen faced Germany's Niko Megerle and won convincingly with a score of 6-0. In the quarterfinals, the Armenian wrestler defeated his British opponent Muhammad Mokaev with a decisive score of 10-0.
Earlier, in the 125 kg weight class, Martin Simonyan won his consolation match 5-2 against an Albanian opponent and will compete for a bronze medal. Similarly, 74 kg wrestler Hrayr Alikhanyan will also fight for a bronze medal. Meanwhile, in the 86 kg weight category, Mher Markosyan lost his consolation match to a Turkish competitor with a score of 0-4, making him the only Armenian wrestler in this tournament who did not advance in the medal race.
