Mikheil Saakashvili Hospitalized
The former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, who declared a hunger strike in prison 39 days ago, has been hospitalized in a prison medical facility, according to the Georgian Prison Service.
Due to a deterioration in his health condition and an increased risk, inmate Mikheil Saakashvili has been transferred from Prison No. 12 to the medical facility for inmates and convicts No. 18. "We will gradually provide additional information to the public," the statement reads.
Saakashvili was arrested in Georgia on October 1. The former president has been sentenced in absentia for the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of MP Valeri Gelashvili.
