Incident Occurs on Ilham Aliyev's Visit to Shushi, Where He Made Another Anti-Armenian Statement: Armenian Foreign Ministry

On November 8, the Azerbaijani side opened fire near the Stepanakert-Shushi route, targeting civilians engaged in construction work for infrastructure restoration in the area under the responsibility of Russian peacekeepers. As a result, three people were injured, and one person was killed.

We strongly condemn the gross violation of the ceasefire regime established by the November 9, 2020 statement by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. It is noteworthy that the incident occurred on the eve of the anniversary of the signing of the trilateral statement and coincided with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Shushi, where he delivered another speech full of anti-Armenian rhetoric and threats of using force.

The continuous anti-Armenian rhetoric from Azerbaijan's highest leadership and the recurring incidents violating the ceasefire regime clearly highlight the insincere nature of official Baku's declarations regarding the normalization of relations with Armenia and the Armenian people.

It should be mentioned that this is the second incident within the last month where Azerbaijani armed forces have attacked civilians, resulting in human casualties.

We are confident that a proper investigation of this and similar crimes and bringing all responsible parties to justice can prevent further attacks on the civilian population. We express our condolences to the relatives of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to all the injured.
