Everything Is Possible: Armen Sarkissian on Armenian-Turkish Reconciliation
President Armen Sarkissian gave an interview to Igor Chernyak, the chief editor of the renowned Russian publication "Аргументы и Факты." When asked whether he considers Armenian-Turkish reconciliation possible or if everything is forever lost, the president replied:
“The answer is trivial—nothing is eternal, neither final victory nor final defeat. Everything is possible in this world. For example, France and Germany fought against each other for several hundred years, but everything changed after World War II. First and foremost, tolerance emerged, tolerance towards faith, culture, and communication. If that had not happened, the medieval wars in Europe would still be ongoing today.
I believe that in this case, Turkey should show initiative, demonstrating tolerance towards culture, history, monuments, faith, the church, and others. Without that, without mutual respect, nothing will succeed.”
