Death Cases Among Youth Have Increased: Avanesyan

The Delta variant of the coronavirus is showing a significant severe course among children as well. This was announced by the Minister of Health of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, at the National Assembly.

The minister noted that there is also an increase in general acute respiratory infections this year. “Last year, restrictions related to the coronavirus led to a sharp decrease in movements, which in turn resulted in a decline in other childhood infections and diseases. However, this year we are facing a combined situation,” Avanesyan stated.

She mentioned that the burden on the healthcare system is terrifying, and the hospital bed capacity is currently being fully utilized.

There are also severe cases of the disease among young people, including fatalities. “In previous variants, we had no deaths among young people without chronic diseases, but this year we are seeing a sharp development of the disease within 1-2 days, and death cases are being recorded,” Avanesyan noted, adding that this trend is observed worldwide.
