EEC Minister Gegham Vardanyan's Term Terminated
EEC Minister Gegham Vardanyan will not continue his tenure. Moreover, a replacement has already been determined. The government has found a more lenient option for his dismissal, granting him the opportunity to submit a resignation letter. This was reported by "Factinfo."
Previously, the website noted that the issue of recalling Gegham Vardanyan, who has been at the center of various scandals since his first day in office, was on the agenda. On the same day, we also approached the official body, the office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, requesting a comment, but it was only days later that we received an official response confirming that the final cessation of his powers is merely a matter of days, as decisions have already been prepared.
"Gegham Vardanyan has informed the Government of Armenia about his intention to cease his powers as a member of the Collegium (Minister) of Internal Markets, Information Technology, and Communication Technologies of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and has submitted a resignation letter to the Eurasian Economic Commission," stated the office's response.
Additionally, it is already known who will replace him. Currently, discussions are underway regarding the appointment of Varos Simonian, the former Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia, to the same position.
"During the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union held on October 14, the agenda included and adopted decisions regarding the termination of Gegham Vardanyan's powers as a member of the Collegium (Minister) for Internal Markets, Information Technology, and Communication Technologies, and the appointment of Varos Simonian to the same position," the response from Mher Grigoryan's office stated.
Varos Simonian was dismissed from his position as Deputy Minister on October 21 by order of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The aforementioned decisions are currently in the signing phase and will come into force and be published after the signatures of the leaders of all EAEU member states.
Incidentally, in our publication on November 1, we also mentioned that Gegham Vardanyan had employed a Russia-based Azerbaijani in that international organization after the 44-day war and subsequently sent him on maternity leave. In other words, Gegham Vardanyan utilized his position to provide service to an Azerbaijani, enabling him to take a paid maternity leave. There has been no official response regarding this information yet.
