Charges Filed Against Two Individuals in the Murder of a 40-Year-Old Resident of Yerevan

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has filed charges against two individuals in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old resident of Yerevan.

Following investigative and other urgent procedural actions conducted by the Yerevan Investigative Division of the Investigative Committee, as well as operational and investigative measures undertaken by the police, the circumstances of the murder that occurred on November 1, 2021, have been clarified.

It has been determined that the alleged perpetrator, a Yerevan resident born in 2001, has been identified. During the preliminary investigation into the criminal case regarding this incident, a report was received from an employee of the Shengavit division of the Armenian police, indicating that on November 1, at 03:17, while carrying out appropriate measures at the crime scene, a message was received on the 'WhatsApp' application from the alleged perpetrator's father, containing information that could obstruct the administration of justice and the investigation.

A criminal case has also been initiated regarding this incident under Article 332, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code, which has been joined to the initial case concerning the murder.

During the preliminary investigation, forensic medical, forensic genetic, forensic biological, and forensic chemical examinations were ordered, video surveillance equipment from the medical center was confiscated, and various other investigative and procedural actions were performed.

Based on the gathered sufficient evidence, charges have been filed against a 20-year-old individual under Article 104, Part 1, and Article 235, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure. His father has also been charged under Article 332, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code, and a travel restriction has been placed on him.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Notice: A suspect or accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision in accordance with the established procedure of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
