Catastrophic Drought Is Closely Approaching, Scientist Warns

The global warming of our planet is seriously damaging the water cycle and could cause terrifying droughts in the coming years, according to scientist Peter Gleick, as reported by RIA Novosti.

He emphasized that rising temperatures are increasing the consumption of water resources. “The liquid in our reservoirs is evaporating more quickly. The need for water for agricultural irrigation is growing,” said the expert.

Gleick expressed dissatisfaction that politicians have ignored scientists who have long warned about impending disasters. He stated that if authorities had responded sooner, it would have been possible to at least mitigate the effects of global warming.

Experts have repeatedly discussed the necessity of limiting the temperature rise to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius. To achieve this goal, more than 190 countries signed the Paris Agreement on climate issues in December 2015, which outlines actions to mitigate global warming. The document does not suggest a complete abandonment of fossil fuels, but states must take measures to adapt to climate change, reduce emissions, and transition to renewable energy sources.
