Legal Proceedings Initiated Against Those Spreading False News of Erdogan's Death in Turkey
Legal proceedings have been initiated in Turkey against Turkish Twitter users who spread rumors last night that Turkey's President and leader of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had died, reports Ermenihaber.am.
The Turkish police announced that legal action was taken against 30 individuals who made manipulative claims about Erdogan on social media. The President's lawyer, Huseyin Aydin, filed a report with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, asserting that certain users posted offensive remarks about the President under the hashtags “#RecepTayyipErdogan” and “#ölmüş” (translated as ‘has died’) on Twitter.
It is noteworthy that in recent months, numerous videos have circulated showing Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan in poor health. Consequently, on November 3, when events involving Erdogan were canceled, rumors began spreading on Turkish social media that he had passed away. Following these rumors, the head of the public relations department in the President's office, Fahrettin Altun, was compelled to release a video to prove that Erdogan is alive.
